Curtain Measuring Guide
Measuring for Curtains on a Track
To be sure of the best possible fit, take time to measure your window carefully. The curtain track should be positioned 10-15cm above the window and extend 15cm - 20cm either side.
- Measuring the width: Measure the total width of the track. To ensure the curtains hang correctly, we recommend that the combined width of your curtains should be as close to double the size of your curtain pole as possible (depending on the heading you choose)
- Measuring the drop: Before measuring the drop, decide whether you want your curtains to fit below the sill or to the floor. We suggest that:
- Curtains that fall below the sill finish 10-15cm below.
- Floor length curtains finish 1.5cm from the floor (See fig. 3).
Ensure the drop is measured from the top of the track.
Measuring Curtains on a Pole
To be sure of the best possible fit, take time to measure your window carefully. The curtain pole should be positioned 10-15cm above the window and extend 15cm - 20cm either side.
- Measuring the width: Measure the total width of the pole (excluding finials). To ensure the curtains hang correctly we recommend that the combined width of your curtains should be as close to double the size of your curtain pole as possible.
- Curtains that fall below the sill finish 10-15cm below.
- Floor length curtains finish 1.5cm from the floor (See fig. 4).
For pencil pleat, triple pleat or goblet top curtains measure the drop from the bottom of the pole.
For eyelet or tab top curtains measure the drop from the top of the pole. Curtain makers should normally add 2cm from the top of the eyelet hole. So be sure to check with the makers before getting them made up.
